Cognitive Bioscience was formed in June 2001, by a team of scientists and engineers formerly employed by the AI software firm Webmind Inc., led by Webmind Inc. founder/ chairman/ CTO / Chief Scientist Ben Goertzel.
The insight that led to the founding of the firm was a simple one.
On the one hand, postgenomic biology had a problem: an explosion of too much, too diverse, too complex data.
On the other hand, following Webmind Inc.'s dissolution in March 2001, Dr. Goertzel and his team found themselves in possession of a groundbreaking AI technology in search of an appropriate market opportunity.
It soon became clear that the fusion of advanced AI with postgenomic biology was not only fascinating on a conceptual level, but potentially the core of a highly profitable new bioinformatics business. And so Cognitive Bioscience was formed.
With products scheduled for release in early 2002, the team is hard at work preparing the groundwork for the next biocomputing revolution.
