The fearless leaders of the Cognitive Bioscience team:

Ben Goertzel, Ph.D.

Chief founder of the  Webmind Inc., Ben is the primary intellectual force behind Cognitive Bioscience.  He holds a PhD in mathematics from Temple University, and over the period 1989-1997 he held several university faculty positions in mathematics, computer science, and psychology, in the US, New Zealand and Australia.  He is author of numerous research papers and journalistic articles, a biography of Linus Pauling, and five scholarly books dealing with topics in the cognitive sciences, including Chaotic Logic (Plenum Press, 1994), and Creating Internet Intelligence (Plenum Press, 2001, to appear).  

Cassio Pennachin

Formerly the VP of AI Development of Webmind Inc. and the President of Webmind Brazil, Cassio holds a computer science degree from UFMG in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, and is the leader of Cognitive Bioscience's software engineering team.  His expertise in software architecture, agent systems, AI and software process have been critical to the progress of Webmind, and now Biomind, AI since 1998.

Andre Luiz de Senna

Senna, formerly the leader of the Webmind Core team within Webmind Inc., is our master of data structures and algorithms, with an MS in computer science from UFMG in Belo Horizonte, and experience both in academic computer science projects and the software consulting business.

Thiago Turchetti Maia

Thiago, formerly a Senior AI Engineer at Webmind Inc., was the initial author of the new, leaner and meaner AI engine that has evolved into Biomind.  He, Senna and Cassio are together leading the firm's AI engineering initiative. 

Pei Wang, Ph.D.

Dr. Wang, the chief conceptual architect of Biomind's logical reasoning component, brings to us 15 years of experience in AI  research, much of it focused on his Non-Axiomatic Reasoning System and associated practical and philosophical issues. He received his PhD under Douglas Hofstadter in the Indiana University Cognitive Science Program. Before joining Webmind Inc. in 1998 he designed and implemented AI systems for many different corporations, including Brightware and the Vanguard Group.
